Frequently asked questions

Questions, answered.

The short version: the rolls are real physics, the core app is free, and yes, it works in the basement with no signal.

Are the dice rolls actually fair?

Yes, and you can verify it yourself. DiceShaker does not pick a result and animate toward it. Each throw gets a randomized impulse, then a physics engine simulates the dice tumbling, colliding, and settling. The number facing up when a die stops is the result. The app also keeps fairness stats: a roll distribution per die type computed from your own throws, so you can check that your d20 behaves like a d20.

Does DiceShaker work offline?

Yes. Rolling, scoring, history, and every core feature work with no connection at all. There is no account and no ad tracking.

Is DiceShaker free? What does the Power Pack add?

Everything you need to roll dice is free: the full dice set, real physics, scoring modes, and recent roll history. The Power Pack is a single optional in-app purchase for power users. It adds extra dice areas, deeper roll history with CSV and JSON export, and the full background library. It does not change roll fairness in any way.

Which dice types are included?

The full tabletop set: d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20, and d100 (percentile). You can mix any of them into one pool and roll them together in a single throw, with pips or numerals and multiple material finishes.

How do I roll and how do scoring modes work?

Tap the tray or shake your phone. Scores can be read as a total with modifiers, highest or lowest, success counting against a target, keep or drop highest and lowest, and exploding dice. Advantage in D&D, for example, is just 2d20 with keep highest.

Is there an iPhone or iPad version?

Not yet. An iOS version is in development on the same engine, but there is no release date to promise. DiceShaker is currently available for Android on Google Play.

I bought the original DiceShaker years ago. What happened to it?

The original DiceShaker 3D and DiceShaker D&D are no longer sold separately. The new DiceShaker combines both into one rebuilt app, and everything needed to roll is now free, including the RPG dice the D&D version was known for. If you owned an old version, get in touch and we will look after you.

Can I change how the dice and table look?

Yes. Dice come in multiple finishes and colors, with pip and numeral faces, and the table background can be changed. Saved dice sets keep your favorite combinations one tap away.
